New Op-Ed in today's Guardian
Today's my 60th birthday! As an unexpected present, the Guardian published my new essay on embracing sign language and the phrase "hard of hearing" over "hearing impaired."
I write to you today from Essaouira, Morocco, where I am on vacation for my sixtieth birthday. (Sixty. I know. Crazy.) Meaning sixty years ago today, on March 11, 1966, I was born in Boston, MA, to a mother whose insurance would only cover the cost of my birth, not the epidural, so she had to raw dog it.
